  • My point was the masses all agreed on Friday that it's a good time to buy trending and popular stocks in the first 90 minutes of Friday.
  • Regardless of the reason why, or if it's a good or bad idea, that's what was happening.
  • Some of those stocks kept going up, the trendy ones starting selling off.
  • But it's trending, like bitcoin related stocks weeks before.
  • The moment MSTR started going down while bitcoin was going up- that trend ended.

  • You'd be betting on their ability to keep using their access to credit markets to acquire BTC more efficiently than you otherwise could, increase BTC per share, and eventually do something interesting with their massive holdings as BTC adoption matures.
  • Where BTC is a bearer asset with basically no counterparty risk, MSTR is very reliant on Saylor continuing to make good decisions and staying solvent.
  • God knows what happens if Saylor dies and gets replaced with some random suit.

  • I don't think you can buy an SEC protected BTC leveraged put expiring in 3 hours, for example, but if you want to do that with MSTR, you can.
  • The market has a lot of very short term movers that feel safer doing what they do everyday in a known system.
  • It's an open door into bitcoin for professional investors, without needing to address your funds' internal rules (or create investor fear by moving into full crypto holding).

  • MSTR is worth like ~35%~ more than the btc they hold (guesstimate- someone please correct me).
  • That's all fine and dandy when the price is going up because MSTR goes up faster than bitcoin.
  • And when it does go down, I promise you it will be AH when you can't trade and all the institutions will get out before you have the chance.

  • They dilute the BTC exposure of those who purchase the newly offered shares and distribute it to existing shareholders.
  • It's a house of cards built on the price of Bitcoin and the next investor paying an increasing premium for a smaller and smaller portion of Bitcoin
  • They're tipping their hand and saying the only thing they're doing is acting as a Bitcoin Treasury and a marketing machine.
  • - the price of Bitcoin remains steady and shares get priced at an outrageous premium allowing them to buy enormous amounts of Bitcoin
  • MSTR can never provide the same amount of BTC per dollar because doing so would eliminate one half of their business model.

  • 267 MSTR shares means I hold 0.48130221 BTC
  • It increased the BTC/share ratio for existing shareholders
  • Someone who held $97,000 of shares from the share offering *before* mine would see their BTC exposure jump from ~0.48 to 0.48130221

  • not sure that makes any sense... most arguements and critiques are explained through logically considering hypothetical scenarios.
  • in this case "Bitcoin goes down" isn't exactly a rock the earth type of scenario.
  • so this completely unrealistic hypothetical I'm postulating actually already happened.
  • again, I don't think it's realistic that BTC drops long term like 5-10 years.

  • I understand it matters in response to OP (they don't immediately go bankrupt due to margin call).
  • But if Bitcoin goes to even $50k I predict a mass exodus and plummet from MSTR.
  • is your thesis that they will recover from this by starting up the pyramid again and praying people buy back in so they can leverage that to buy Bitcoin, meanwhile just holding onto the Bitcoin they already have?
  • Buy Bitcoin exposure at 400% value and pray this convertible bond scheme keeps going?
  • 4:1 already is looking bad for sensible investors, and that's in a huge bull run for BTC.
