  • The only thing that holds me back from investing in INTC is the fact that it is posted about being a buy on WSB like 5 times a day.

  • INTC is trying to pull off a turn around.
  • Had 200 INTC shares since the early 2010s and doubled down with another 200 shares in 2020 so my losses aren't so much bad so much as INTC having been a fucking show and being inferior to no stress VOO.
  • Is getting billions pumped into them by Biden, Dems/Reps, and the US government who are incentivized for them to win.
  • 2000 was the peak for many tech stocks.
  • If anything this is probably the most bullish thing I've seen for INTC in a long time.
Why I'm bullish on Intel (INTC) 2024-12-09T03:25:31+00:00 68 stocks
  • If INTC wanted to come back in a fierce way, it would be leaning into this GPU thing they got going on.
  • The new chips aren't bad, for $250 you can get 4060 Ti performance.
  • That's a powerful price point to be in, and if one of these cycles they can get something closer to performance to an NVIDIA xx70 card, it would be a huge huge seller and would cause a lot of people to buy an intel card for the first time

  • You can say the same thing about AMD and its graphics line.
  • Basically buying the guys who sell the shovels to gold rushers.
  • Nvidia has wiped the floor with everyone and to both INTC and AMDs credit.
  • The AI bubble is all that's kept Nvidia and TSMC soaring.
  • If they can get to the next big litho scanner they'll print money.

  • If the tariff thing happens that could flip things in Intel's favor, not to mention the incoming administration makes the Taiwan situation (read TSMC, NVDA, AMD) more dicey.
  • I wouldn't totally write off INTC unless their next gen chips turn out to be garbage too.
  • TSMC doesn't have a foundry with modern process capabilities in the US, while INTC is busy putting the finishing touches on their 1.8nm domestic process which could compete with TSMs latest 2nm if not slightly leapfrog them.
  • i'm playing both sides AMD in the short term and Intel longer term.
  • It's a long shot but I can picture in the upcoming bizarro world say late 2025-2026 something like INTC cpu trading blows with AMD but due to tariffs their high end CPU goes for what a mid range AMD does.

  • Nothing wrong for long call, the only thing you can improve next time is wait till pigs selling all of their stocks before buying options as that will usually be lowest price.

  • Intel literally had a duopoly on chips and a monopoly on top down vertical CPU production from design, to research, to testing, to fabs, etcetc.
  • It pays a dividend and has massive insider buying instead of selling like NVDA.
  • Chips are now deemed as "strategically important" by the US military/geopoliticals so now INTC will get bailed out if there is a massive recession just like autos/airlines/banks did in the GFC/2020.
  • Also Intel is getting tens of billions of dollars from the US government to build fabs.
  • Everyone from AAPL, GOOG, MSFT, META, TSLA, etcetetc all literally begging for ANYONE to give them ANY sort of alternative to NVDA since Jensen has them all by the balls.

  • And I hope smallmem is buying this in a tax-exempt account, bought this a month or more ago, or just not in the US cause it would be HIGHLY regarded to buy a near LEAP but not go the full 1 year.
  • The 1yr+ is important because options are decaying so any extra time is worth the premium.
  • Also 1yr+ means IF you win you'll be paying much less in tax since it will count was LT cap gains rather than ST.

  • Despite all operational inefficiencies (which they are trying to fix), they still do $50b+ in revenues...
  • Financial situation is bad, operating inefficiency are worse.

  • If OP holds these contracts til market close, he is obligated to buy 10,000 shares of INTC at the strike price (100 contracts at 100 shares each)
  • Something tells me that OP does not have $200,000 sitting in cash ready to buy these shares which the contracts represent.
  • The brokerage would need to cover that $200,000 and buy the shares, then sell them on Monday.
  • Brokerages are not in the business of handing out loans for hundreds of thousands of dollars just because you're a dumbass and let the contract expire in the money without the cash to buy the shares.
  • If they see that you don't have enough cash to buy the shares that the contracts represent, then they'll close your position so you and them don't get ass fucked with a $100,000 margin call.

  • US government won't allow them to continue to fall back on chip superiority.
  • I loaded up on INTC at $31, but I also hold an equal share of TSM.
  • If INTC falls further behind, TSM can start charging whatever they want for their chips, and AMD and NVIDIA will have to pay it.
  • Government subsidies and investments in foundries will be paying off over the long term.
  • If they become too profitable, TSM will just start charging more.

  • Point I'm trying ot make is saying INTC is a bad investment isn't necessarily saying the company is crashing and burning and is worthless.
  • If I'm not mistaken, INTC has jumped from $18-20 to $22-24 range multiple times in the past few months.
  • INTC has been trending in the wrong direction for a very long time now (well over a decade).
  • Now you have to ask yourself, do you want to gamble that INTC could have a little run-up based on valuation, but they have no track record of sustaining the capital appreication?
  • I'll hold the solid stocks long term and let them grow my wealth for me.

  • So people thought the company was worth 50% more than it's assets then.
  • But if they stopped doing business today and just decided to hold a garage sale, they'd generate about $100B, in theory.
  • So, for the value to go lower than that, popular opinion would need to either see continuing INTCs $50B/yr business as a negative value, or INTC would need to sell off assets.

  • As a rule of principal, I put half my paycheck into ETFs and the other half into the individual stocks that I find.
  • I've had good successes this year that have really helped boost my porfolio performance.
  • I personally think this is a great approach because its worked out for me.
  • I found these companies through either just reading market reports here and there, or they have products that either I or people in my circle consumer and can vouch for.
  • I think you would have to be extremely astute and read a fair bit before you can beat any of the indexes.

  • With Pat at the helm and making the right investments and improvements where its needed, INTC has the right conditions for a Dr. Lisa Su-style turnaround like she did with AMD.
  • FD: AyyMD fanboi and holder since 2016.
  • Sure it would be nice if it hit $25 again and just YOLO it, but this is a great DCA opportunity.
  • This is a fairly decent thesis but it ignores one very vital part, Pat Gelsinger.
  • He designed the 486, literally wrote the book on the 386 that is on my bookshelf, and was the CTO during INTC's most successful period.
Intel current management is just bad 2024-06-21T02:01:08+00:00 41 stocks
  • There's no guarantee INTC can even pull this off as TSMC is also keenly aware of the shifting dynamic where AI processors and not smartphones may be the lead products for new and expensive processes.
  • Before they hired back Pat, they did finally realize how dire their situation was and started to do something about it.
  • 3)They do regain the process lead - at great cost - but demand for AI products remains so hot that NVDA etc are willing to pay 50% or 100% more for 10% improvement in silicon performance.
  • I'm not convinced on Intel's turnaround yet, I think they're taking their best shot at saving the business but chances are greater than even that their fabs turn into an even bigger money pit and (hopefully) get spun off to some private equity that doesn't understand what they're getting themselves into.
  • AAPL, NVDA, QCOM, AVGO will hate this and INTC is no longer able to boss around Congress like it could when it was the biggest fish in the pond.

  • Yes, for war and or strategic reasons INTC has a purpose that will ensure that government will likely give it life support.
