Why only Google has a low P/E? 2024-12-20T23:38:22+00:00 3 investing
  • As a shareholder of AAPL, I'm definitely not complaining, but I'm having trouble seeing where Apple's implied growth is going to come from compared to Microsoft's, Meta's, and Google's.
  • But as of today, their PE ratio of almost 42 is higher than MSFT (36), META (27.6), GOOG (25.6).
  • What's nutty to me is that AAPL has had the lowest PE ratio of the tech stocks for like over a decade.

  • NVDA and MSFT are maxed out, nothing impresses investors anymore.
  • It starting to feel physically impossible to have another 20+% year which means it's probably gonna happen somehow

How would you hedge this ridiculous concentrated stock position? 2024-06-04T23:31:40+00:00 1544 wallstreetbets
  • Pay your long term capital gains of $465,748 to Uncle Sam.
  • Take your $1,862,922 and buy a nice, safe money market fund with a rick free rate of 5.5% interest.
  • Now you are making $102,464 every year risk free.

Intel stock sinks more than 10% as early 2024 outlook comes up short 2024-01-26T17:02:55+00:00 348 wallstreetbets
  • They also are heavily exposed to automotive/industrial semi inventory corrections due to their MBLY position and their Alterra FPGA business.
  • Meanwhile this entire time they have to pour cash into building new leading edge fabs.
  • Intel is a shitco with bad AI products.
  • Note: long term I am bullish on Intel.
  • They are getting beaten in GPUs by NVDA, datacenter CPUs by AMD, and outsourced manufacturing by TSMC.

The sheer idiocy of bitcoin and why this is it's last "cycle" 2024-12-20T14:02:20+00:00 2 wallstreetbets
  • Luckily for the financial system bitcoin in terms of traded values and market cap is irrelevant....
  • Not sure why a govt would back something it has little control over.
  • And it can very easily be manipulated, look at the volume on these big drops, it takes very little money to widely swing the price of bitcoin because there's very little liquidity.
  • If you compare it to something with similar market cap like NVDA, it takes 1/100000 of the funds to move bitcoin 10% vs move NVDA 10%.
  • Go look at the actual value of the funds that are trading.
Intel currently represents one of the best stock opportunities for 2025 2024-12-19T03:33:21+00:00 2 stocks
  • INTC has been trending in the wrong direction for a very long time now (well over a decade).
  • Now you have to ask yourself, do you want to gamble that INTC could have a little run-up based on valuation, but they have no track record of sustaining the capital appreication?
  • I'll hold the solid stocks long term and let them grow my wealth for me.
  • Point I'm trying ot make is saying INTC is a bad investment isn't necessarily saying the company is crashing and burning and is worthless.
  • If I'm not mistaken, INTC has jumped from $18-20 to $22-24 range multiple times in the past few months.
Is the market missing JNJ's true potential? 2024-12-18T17:38:24+00:00 8 stocks
  • You may be basing the discount rate off their WACC or some other factor because JNJ should have a lower discount rate than NVDA, but I wouldn't invest in JNJ over an index fund for a 6.9% annual return.
  • 3% is higher than I would normally go with for a long term growth rate because I would rather be conservative, but they are pretty much in their long term growth phase now, and while they have averaged 5.2% FCF growth over the last 10 years, that does include government funding for Covid Vaccines so I don't necessarily have a problem with the 3% long term growth rate.
  • A 6.9% discount rate is lower than I would go.

Realistically, how high can NVDA actually go at this point? 2024-05-26T19:06:21+00:00 746 stocks
  • Personally, I think NVDA would be flat here for a couple months if not for the split next week.
  • I think we see 3T market cap and then a bit of a pull back into the current range.
  • Problem with you thesis is they do have the fundamentals.
  • In Azure and AWS, I still cannot consistently get A100 or H100 VM instances so there is quite a ways to go just to meet todays needs and AI demand is driving compute demands faster than Moores law.
  • Nvidia is also not just focusing on the shovels of AI, they are using their cash to invest back in industry solutions like Pharma, manufacturing, and self driving auto.

  • "There were, like, two hundred and fifty kids in electrical engineering, and maybe three girls," Huang told me.
  • Competition broke out among the male undergraduates for Mills's attention, and Huang felt that he was at a disadvantage.
  • Mills accepted, and, after six months of homework, Huang worked up the courage to ask her out on a date.
  • >Huang attended Oregon State University, where he majored in electrical engineering.
  • His lab partner in his introductory classes was Lori Mills, an earnest, nerdy undergraduate with curly brown hair.
Why am I so bad at this? 2024-02-24T18:41:10+00:00 332 wallstreetbets
  • Moral of the story.
  • I bought 10 NVDA 1250 calls about a month ago for about 1.00, then during the bull run i traded those out for 6.00 started flipping calls and puts with large gains and losses packs and packs of cigarettes, no sleep, being completely distracted at work + a lot of fucking effort for weeks to be up 10K.
  • Looking at those calls now.

  • Beyond that, there was the trade late last year until around March where people were clearly hoping that AMD would catch up to some meaningful degree to NVDA.
  • Short-term could certainly bounce especially towards the end of month and early next year, but beyond that people are going to go, "Why don't I just own NVDA or AVGO?"
  • AMD short-term technically quite a bit oversold and probably being pretty impacted by end of year loss selling.
Harvesting losses - but supposed to never sell? 2024-12-20T16:10:57+00:00 3 investing
  • If you want to TLH losses in Home Depot, perhaps you put those proceeds into Lowes for 31 days.
  • 31 days isn't a terribly long time though, and market momentum is a real thing.
  • Bogleheads offers lists of "TLH partners" for this reason.
  • Holding your TLH proceeds in cash for a month might well help you avoid further losses.
  • OP seems to be discussing individual stocks rather than funds, but the same idea applies.

  • I remember him saying that his financial advisor kept begging him to sell the TSLA and NVDA stock because that was pretty much his entire net worth.
  • About 5 years ago someone on the software engineering team I managed had previous jobs at Nvidia and Tesla and he still had a lot of stock in both.
  • The dude is probably worth close to $10M now and he was always just a low-level engineer with no ambition for promotions or management.
  • He worked at Tesla in the early-2010s when the stock price was hovering in the teens, then spent 5 years or so at Nvidia in the late 2010s when the stock price was in the single digits and then ran up into the 60s.
  • I haven't talked to him in a while but he must be absolutely fucking loaded at this point.

  • Obviously down from yesterday but... yea I've got a decent amount riding on it.
  • They only just IPOed a couple months back, low mc, lots of running room, minimal debt, tons of cash, and they're doing a lot in 2025.
  • NVDA invested pretty heavily in them recently.
  • Down about 17% from it's recent high, but I assume a lot of ipo folks have dumped it on the run up.
  • I'm holding a lot of calls.

Genuine question I'm new to this so what's stopping me from doing this and making 36k 2024-03-11T06:05:51+00:00 9213 wallstreetbets
  • What you're proposing is called selling a naked put.
  • If you get sell a naked put and get assigned, because the stock falls to the strike, you are obligated to buy 100 shares of the underlying stock at the strike price.
  • You sell 1000 contracts, then you are obligated to buy 10,000 shares at $540 per share, or $54,000,000 for 1000 contracts.
  • The broker requires you to have this money in your account through the duration of the open position, in case you are assigned.
  • Thus, unless you have $54,000,000 collateral, you ain't sellin those...
