What should I do with $7000 2024-01-03T16:31:43+00:00 25 investing
  • Forget about apps like Robinhood and open a legit retirement account with Vanguard.
  • Roll that $7000 into a Roth IRA and invest it all in a low cost S&P 500 index fund like Vanguard's VFIAX.
  • You'll have exposure to all the top companies like MSFT, AAPL, AMZN, NVDA, GOOGL, META, TSLA, BRK-B, UNH and more.
  • You'll likely get 14% return annually for the most part.
  • Next year, repeat and max out your Roth contributions again!

  • I bet none of that impacts what the company actually earned this quarter.
  • People should be focusing on what revenue UNH is actually making, not how popular they are.
  • I'm willing to bet the stock was heavily shorted to set up calls for earnings- which is why I bought in.
  • If this even gets closer to where it was before the drop, my measly $2500 turns into something like $45k.
  • Imagine being a hedge fund with millions invested (or going to be) in similar strategies?

  • For insurers, the market assumed Trump would de-regulate everything, but seems like he prefers pharma companies over PBMs based on recent comments.
  • Meanwhile health insurance stocks (ELV, CVS) are trading at lower than 2020 P/E ratios.
  • CVS is trading at a lower P/E than it's 5 year average and the entire healthcare industry (insurers mostly and some pharma companies) have been hit with negative RFK sentiment.
  • However, I think we're seeing how even bipartisan supported bills like the PBM bill is not so easy to pass and Trump has a lot of priorities (e.g. crpyto, immigration, tariffs, taxes, deregulation, small things like support for TikTok, etc.).
  • Tech and interest rate sensitive stocks have run up a lot, so wonder if this is a good opportunity when sentiment is low.

  • This is in reaction to a proposed bill to divest their pharmacy businesses.
  • It has to go through a million hoops to get passed into law.
  • If by some off chance it did get passed I'm sure UNH and the others will bribe face and he'll veto it.
  • Easy money for a company that prints money.
  • Sold half my position in UNH last month for $610 and bought half of that back at $516.

  • right now, an incredible amount of money is leaving a handful of tickers and being so much, it cant just all go into JPM and UNH.

  • I agree that it is undervalued but this has opened a whole can of shittery in the healthcare industry and Americans are just fed up with it.
  • Maybe the new CEO will implement changes but that means it will cut profits for UNH as well which will not look good in the eyes of investors.
  • Overall, at the current price it's a gamble and a long term hold as it could go much lower.

  • Currently a huge majority of profit is entirely non-digital on paper needed to be processed by hand
  • United health care is basically fucked.
  • Servers are , the 1/119 services that's online as of Friday Day 9 isn't processing claims aka the actual money, just the coverage.
  • They're offering offices 1-5% of monthly gross, so Twitter pharmacists and doctors are saying a $150k month has now turned into 1-3% loan WITH the provision they're signing away their right to protest reimbursement claims.

  • I don't own UNH, but overall it's a solid company and clearly they are doing something right if they are able to continue to growth revenues in the mid teens.
  • Not sure the age breakout, but looks like 92% of Americans do have health insurance:
  • UNH for example is one of the largest health insurance company and look at their revenue growth:
  • They are showing like mid teen solid growth for the last three years.
  • They reported back in January, so they should have new numbers soon, but in that report earnings where still up 14% YoY and had a solid EPS beat.

  • You can even say I still own some UNH because I own index funds.
  • You are also right that many companies have unethical practices, in fact, i think it is almost impossible to be a successful business if trying to be ethical in everything.
  • And this is why, it is my opinion, health insurance and medical practices should not be publicly traded companies.

  • Many of the workhorses of prior years ran flat.
  • Just pointing out that VOO 3 year performance isn't the story by itself.
  • You were right here with us when everyone held up AAPL as a can't miss, and TSLA was the star of every "DD".
  • PG, UNH... they've all had stretches of underperformance.
  • The counterpoint will always be the difficulty of picking the winners.
