More modern might be a total market fund (Russel 5000) like VT. You could diversify more by adding al international with something like VXUS or increase exposure to NASDAQ.

VT is only if you want to get rich at 93.

You can keep this simple: "Growth" or "risk" assets place in VT which tracks the all country world index and itself has "built in" diversification away from the AI trade since it invests in the global equity market, not just the S&P 500 or NASDAQ.

看空

I can imagine him panicking yet wanting to buy the dip with his last few 100 bucks he still had in cash, but being too scared of the ai bubble he just panic bought VT instead.

That said, 90% of my investments are in VT or TDFs.

If you have kids and a wife as a man you should really really cash out everything and start DCA into VT or some other brain dead etf.

Roth IRA: 100% VT? Or 35% VXUS and 65% VTI?
Between those two options they're effectively identical. VT is like a bundle of 35% VXUS and 65% VTI. If you just want to invest in "the world" then go with VT. Splitting out into US and ex-US makes sense if you want to have specific weighting leaning more one way than the other. Nice work opening an IRA at a young age, though. Great move.

Hey! I think I'm getting good at this thing. Maybe I'll drop out of school and be a trader!
I can imagine him panicking yet wanting to buy the dip with his last few 100 bucks he still had in cash, but being too scared of the ai bubble he just panic bought VT instead. A true moment of enlightenment.

Reducing my tech exposure, stock recommendations?
I started doing this in 2016 and have outperformed VT by 82% in my "play money account" (which I limit to about 100k). … You can't win them all, but the pullbacks in 2018, 2020, 2024 (tariff tantrum) and 2025 (Iraq war) did wonders for my individual positions.

It's not just money lol. This affects a lot more than that and I've seen the mental damage this can cause. If you have kids and a wife as a man you should really really cash out everything and start DCA into VT or some other brain dead etf.

Buying the dip on individual stocks or adding to index funds: what's your approach to this pullback?
I am mostly staying with the index here, tbh, because this does not look like much of a pullback to me. … For single names I am stricter, I only add if earnings estimates held up while the price fell, otherwise teh cheaper price is just the market repricing weaker earnings.

Alphabet (Google), is having one of the wildest days in its history
Switched over from VTI and dropped $75,000 on GOOG shares from this massacre. Will report in a few months to a year how it went lmao.

Invest! I'm very new to all this.
My personal feeling is eventually simplicity wins so I would basically go nearly 100% stocks in your retirement account at 19. … More modern might be a total market fund (Russel 5000) like VT. You could diversify more by adding al international with something like VXUS or increase exposure to NASDAQ.

The Capital Gains Surprise
Why not just buy VTI or VT and not have to worry about churning or rebalancing? Lol can't have taxes if you don't sell.

Where are you putting your rainy day funds?
My advice to you would be keep 3-6 months of expenses in vbil (i prefer to sgov slightly) and put the rest of your money in VT or VTI/VOO if you dont want international (I would go VT). … Most advisors will charge you a fee and still not beat the market, much less if you include the fee drag.

Is there an instrument that combines the safety of bonds with at least some possibility of upside?
Obviously every crash is different but you get the idea. 85-100% VT/0-15% BND. … Getting 5% nominally from the "safe stuff" leaves a lower bar to clear from the "growth" side of the portfolio.

Just look at FAANG, netflix is already dead. Nvidia could be next. … Or something like VT but VOO will likely outperform.

It hurts, man
Geez that is brutal. I felt horrible losing 40k once. Got it back though. … I switched to simple and easy S&P 500 ETF and others like it.
