I don't understand why this company is so bad. Their processors are wiping the floor with Intel these days. Their graphics cards are competitive. Nvidia has AI and all that I understand, but AMD has a sizable foot in the market. Why are they not profitable?

  • After this is complete I wanted to flesh out a portfolio for one year with the following holdings.
  • I know its often recommended not to have this many individual stock and that I should only focus on my top 5 choices, but after tons of reading I think this portfolio will serve me well with some stocks providing above average growth, some providing dependable dividends, and others that I can use to hold for slow but steady growth that can also be used to write options with.
  • I have a horizon of over 10 years so a bit of time being down doesnt bother me too much as these all would be long term holds for me.

  • Not sure if you're trying to convert these to shares or sell for profit, however, I would suggest looking into how The Greeks work before committing.
  • AMD has been beaten to death this year and has a future evaluation/price target of $140-$160/share (speculation as always).
  • If you feel strongly about AMD, with the amount of capital you have, it may be worth it to take on the same Exp.
  • date at a $140 strike at half the cost, reserve cash and possibly add to that position if it goes south (buying the dip), or even say screw it and get multiple contracts initially.
  • Don't be afraid to go outside the money on the cheaper options with lower market caps either, just do research.

  • Hyperscalers don't want to waste time switching to ASICs dependence so will continue to rely on Nvidia for now.
  • They're rumored to be going into the high end CPU market next year to compete with Apple's M series.
  • IMO the main reason hyperscalers are looking to go in house is to reduce the risk of overdependence on one supplier.
  • But given how important the AI race is, I expect all of them to give most of their spend to Nvidia over the coming years.
  • Finally, let's look at the TAM figures outlined by various chip companies and financial analysts.

  • Beyond that, there was the trade late last year until around March where people were clearly hoping that AMD would catch up to some meaningful degree to NVDA.

  • Their $50B in annual revenue and healthy debt-to-equity ratio show the company is still in a strong position financially.
  • If Intel can hit industry-standard yields, the foundry business could be a game changer.
  • The Amazon Al chip deal might just be the start, and geopolitical factors like tariffs could make Intel even more competitive against TSMC.
  • The OEM dominance and improving CPU/GPU lineup are also solid points.
  • Sure, AMD is strong in gaming, but intel's overall market share and product roadmap give it room to recover.
