  • This is the type of announcement you make right before Evan joins Myspace Tom in social media heaven.
  • SNAP pays out double their free cash flow to employees/executives right now and it used to be worse.
  • The company is garbage with the only tailwind being threatening people to pay a monthly fee to not delete their cloud storage photos.

I watched the keynote and I also own a bunch of these types of glasses and the FOV is a problem IMO....

  • The appeal is most likely the augmented reality more than anything, but with AR it comes down to the software/apps, which will be lacking.
  • They demo'd it helping you with your golf swing, but that means:
  • The only way these types of products can be successful is if there is an anchor draw that brings people to them.
  • Until these glasses have a larger FOV and can be used for serious gaming, replacement desktop screen mirroring for productivity, or incredible software/features, they're all going to just be steppingstones.

  • They can now amplify any single instance of fraud and pretend it's widespread.
  • Like how the data has always shown extremely low actual fraud in SNAP benefits, but you would never know that by reading social media.
  • Which should always be a local school board issue anyway (party of small government lol).
  • Any divisive issue can be portrayed as a common occurrence, depending on what your algorithms are putting in front of you every day.
  • It's nice to see once in a blue moon on the internet lol...but I should pack it in for the night with my commenting.

  • So in one sense, it's very impressive they've managed to shrink the technology down to this size.
  • But it also only has a "up to 45" minute battery life, so it's pretty pointless.
  • Also there's no software for any of these headsets to make the masses interested, at any price point.
  • I think SNAP is hoping that their hardware is cool enough to be the first one to finally get someone to build a killer app, become the default AR glasses company, and then become the app store for ARVR themselves to get a cut of all those sales.
  • I think in reality if these devices actually take off, Google and Apple will simply produce better versions and use their inertia as software platforms to crush any competition.

  • As you said, it's making an extremely concentrated bet on an asset that you already have a huge amount of risk tied up in because your employment and income are already tethered to the company's performance.
  • Assuming it's a public company, it's really only worth it if you have some sort of edge from working there that gives you higher conviction in the stock long-term.
  • The problem is people tend to have very distorted views on their employer's health, especially if you're just a rank and file employee.
  • It's easy to drink the kool-aid and actually opens you up to even more cognitive bias when evaluating the stock since you're embedded in it.
  • Look how something like WeWork turned out for the employees who stuck with their shares.

  • Also I listened to the last earnings call and Evan sounded a bit autistic when asked what is his opinion about activist investor letter.
  • Luckily I turned a good profit since I bought in at 4.5, was expecting more from the guy however.
