"BUYING" - highly voted

I've pretty much just been buying SPY calls 2023-12-27T21:53:02+00:00 3308 wallstreetbets
  • Mostly buying SPY calls, 80% calls and 20% puts.
  • I enter and exit daily, usually within 1 hour of entering the position.
  • I just stair at the chart for 30 minutes and when I think it's gonna go up, I buy.
  • A 20 cent jump on SPY and I am out.
  • Feel free to ask any questions.
What's a realistic daily goal for someone with $150,000 capital to trade? 2024-11-05T18:23:29+00:00 219 Daytrading
  • If you went with futures instead of stocks then the leverage would allow you to take the full 1% of account value risk per trade and and bump it up to $3,000 per winner with a 1:2 risk to reward.
  • Well $150,000 in cash gives you $600,000 in day trade buying power with margin (equities not forex).
  • I equalize the $ amount risk on each of my trade by adjusting the share size based off of the distance from my entry to my stop.
  • So with $600k buying power lets go through an example.
  • If you want to go with the normal advice of "risk 1% account value on each trade" then:

SPY should rally 10 points or so over the next three days 2024-12-21T21:47:14+00:00 30 wallstreetbets
  • Santa rally inbound but not because of your shutdown theory fam.
  • [Market historically pumps 1.4% during Santa season](https://finance.yahoo.com/news/santa-claus-rally-set-2024-132900270.html) and retail just keeps buying the dip like crazy.
  • [ETF inflows hit $1.6T this year](https://finance.yahoo.com/news/etf-market-sets-records-2024-221352541.html) - that's some serious printer action.
  • Your shutdown charts look pretty but correlation causation my guy.

  • The vast majority of my trades happen when positioning and a news event intersect.
  • Then we got that big earnings report in an adjacent semiconductor name and because I follow the sector and can interpret the news fairly well and also knew from my TA that TSM was oversold I knew there would be a really good chance TSM would have a big move that day.
  • I don't want to be one of those people who sit in front of the screen all day and scalp nickels and dimes off SPY.
  • I want a nice, big juicy setup where I can get so far ITM on my opening position I can add 0 DTEs

  • Sometimes I'll enter a setup that isn't ideal but for the most part if you follow your rules every time and proper risk management (cutting your losers and letting your winners run), you'll be profitable.
  • The ideas you really need to understand are: -Liquidity sweep -Breaker block/Order block -Fair value gap/Inverse fair value gap -Break of structure -Candles and their shapes

Spy about to go down?? 2024-09-15T19:52:22+00:00 188 Daytrading
  • One of the major differences between successful and unsuccessful traders is how they view something like this:
  • Unsuccessful traders will think "these indicators are telling me SPY is about to go down"
  • The successful trader knows that they have zero control over any individual trade and rely on a proven strategy with edge that works over time.

  • I'm going to transfer $50,000 from my 2024 income into my Fidelity Accounts and into SPAXX.
  • Since I usually just inject $10,000 - $20,000 into my portfolio in one shot and then leave my investments alone for a while before doing it again, I'm going to DCA this next year.
  • I think I'm going to leave my 1000 shares in NVDA alone for a minute and use funds to build my other positions.
  • I will inject income from 2025 at random points as I normally do, but this will create a steady, consistent investment schedule with money already earned and ready for action now.
  • With the remaining $20,000 now in SPAXX, I will create automatic purchase of PLTR, RKLB, OKLO, and SPY at $385 / week.

  • If you're not willing to put in that time then just dollar cost average into SPY until you're 60.
  • Went broke in 2018 and clawed my way back to 7 figures over 5 year period.
  • Stop trading completely for now and focus on getting another job and saving money.

  • I have tried using unusual options flow since the beginning of this year and while I had some success, the market took back all of it.
  • Had I invested in SPY these past 3 years, I would be up 30%.
  • But most importantly, I lost three years that I could've used for investing in other stuff.
  • It's official, I started trading options back in February 2021.
  • I have lost the equivalent of a one year's salary.

  • calm down smooth brain mcgee
  • BUT if you have any open positions with wash sale adjusted cost basis, you need to make sure they're closed *and settled* before end of 2024 then do not reopen the same position for until 30 days have passed
  • wash sales only really matter towards the end of the year, where if you're not careful you can pull a loss into the new year and turn a net loss into a net gain because your loss got washed into 2025. if you close a wash sale adjusted position in the same calendar year, then its not big deal.

  • If you were break even on trading, missing out on as many gains as avoiding losses, you'd do as well as SPY does.
  • Your big "winning" days are when SPY lost money, but you broke even.
  • Making money on a bullish day is basically breaking even, trading wise.
  • Anyway, this is how I control fomo (when in doubt im on the market), fear of loss (losing money on bearish days is part of the strategy), and feeling the need to always do something (the trade is making money so long as a DONT do anything).
  • I trade small enough that I can lose in a bearish year and not panic TOO much (risk management is key).
