  • You're not a genius stock picker.
  • You stupid bitch.
  • You still have a life changing amount of money left and you still won't admit that you're just fucking wrong.
  • Sell the fucking shares and buy something diversified if you want to hold for a decade.
  • When you graduate start saving the way your grandmother did and deposit $200k.

  • Over a very long period of time, QQQ gives higher returns than an S&P500 ETF like VOO (which holds stocks on both NYSE and NASDAQ).
  • QQQ holds the top 100 companies on the NASDAQ.
  • However, while the peaks are higher than the S&P500, the dips are deeper, due to less diversification.
  • The NASDAQ is a more recent stock exchange (created in the 70s, they were the first to go electronic).
  • All the cool kids like Apple, NVIDIA, Amazon, Costco, etc.
NVIDIA (NVDA) Stock - Wait? or Sell? 2024-03-07T20:55:41+00:00 56 investing
  • * It is very high because recent quarterly earnings have shown a massive increase in demand for NVIDIA's AI chips.
  • * It depends on which future you think is more probable vs your risk vs reward aversion.
  • * Based on this + how much tech is hyping AI-related shit, the Market thinks the demand will only grow.
  • * All it takes is for the market to get bored and plateau on AI, or for a comparable AI-chip competitor to reign in NVDA's massive profit margin.
  • * NVDA for now holds a pretty good monopoly on majority of AI chips just by being first to market in a certain way.

  • I wanted to buy NVR, POOL and OXY but figured itd best to just buy BRK.B that holds those assets.
  • I am worried about a market correction, so I bought some BRK.B and SCHD to get some hedge.
  • And then distribute my cash equally between BRK.B, SCHD and VOO.

  • I like to get ballsy in this sub, but I'm real conservative in my Roth or long-term holds (15-30 years)
  • The only thing I can say is to watch out for the fee structure of some of the funds.
  • One of the reasons VOO/VTI is so preferred is because it has such a low maitance fee.
  • SPMO may beat VOO by total return, but how does the fee factor into that?
  • (for example, say SPMO beats VOO by a full percent annually, but their fee is 1.5%.

  • I prefer to have both and I don't care about the past few years.
  • Why not simplify it to just VTI + VXUS at a % allocation that you're comfortable with?
  • I hold it because I want diversification beyond the USA over the next 25 years before I retire.
  • I buy 80/20 in favor of VTI every two weeks and will continue doing so until I'm 10 years from retirement, at which time I'll start to add bonds, treasuries, and cash.
  • Ex US outperformed in the decade prior.

The More Aggressive The Better 2024-12-20T01:34:41+00:00 2 investing
  • With a high disposable income and early years in the investing game, large drops in the stock market don't really hurt as much as when you have 10+ years of investing saved up.
  • Chances are also low that you will be pressured into immediately selling for an emergency.
  • Why not just pick a small basket of stocks and just consolidate from the Top 100?

What is the most important investing lesson you've learned that everyone should know? 2024-12-15T04:07:14+00:00 3 investing
  • They both track the same index but SPLG is .01% cheaper on the expense ratio so if I had to sell VOO (.03% exp) to take a tax loss you can't buy VOO back within 30 days.
  • That leaves a few options like IVV .03% exp and SPY .09% or SPLG .02%.
  • It's a very small difference, so it's not worth selling VOO to buy SPLG unless you were taking advantage of a low market to harvest tax losses.
  • No reason other than for tax loss harvesting.
  • Of course this info only applies to a taxable brokerage account.

This year in a nutshell 2024-10-18T13:32:20+00:00 342 wallstreetbets
  • Basically VOO and VTI offer nearly identical returns, so when you have money in one, and the market takes a shit, both will take an equal sized shit.
  • So you sell some of your position in one and buy the other.
  • You can can then write off up to $3000 in losses per year from your ordinary income.
  • So you're making $100k you save about $720 in taxes from doing a single transaction in the year.
  • The losses don't matter if you're planning on keeping the money in those funds anyway, might as well save a few hundred bucks a year when you see a big selloff.
Why VOO and chill over other ETFs that outperform VOO over 1/3/5/10 yrs? 2024-01-08T18:12:03+00:00 87 investing
  • The chill philosophy is to be hands off and completely passive, not adjusting to trends.
  • When long term investing, you don't want to ever be in the position where you have to exchange funds (in a taxable account) and create a taxable event.
  • Thematic ETFs like the ones you posted tend to have higher expense ratio.
  • We are in a tech and semiconductor run, so thematic focused ETFs might perform better now, but it's a better idea to follow the whole market trend instead of sector trends.
  • Otherwise, looking back to point #1, you'll have to change up investments down the line creating a taxable event.

P/E Ratios in the Tech Sector 2024-12-21T00:11:12+00:00 4 StockMarket
  • High P/E ratio tech stocks tend to be very speculative and volatile currently in the market.
  • My personal view is there's plenty of room for innovation, with growing demands for processing power and novel solutions to modern problems, not to mention the soon-to-be boom in quantum computing.
  • I'm not a fan (at all) of the so-called 'meme stocks' or poor financial credentials, so stay well clear of speculation on 'promising' companies (aka I don't listen to the media).
  • I've stuck with VOO and Berkshire Hathaway for a diverse investment strategy, making the most of market upside potential and clear financial strength of specific entities and not had to worry about market volatility.
  • Hi, it depends on your expected time in the market and risk allocation.

VOO or VTI - Which is better for long-term investing? 2024-06-07T17:27:43+00:00 40 investing
  • Most importantly, a company must be highly liquid, must have positive earnings in the most recent quarter and over the 4 most recent quarters combined.
  • I believe this should help investors with long term results and that's why I pick VOO over VTI.
  • I don't need thousands of other failing companies dragging me down.
  • People think VOO "is the 500 largest companies in the US."
  • It's 500 OF the largest companies selected by the S&P committee that must meet the index criteria.

Investment Strategy 2025 2024-12-08T05:45:28+00:00 8 StockMarket
  • It's important to note that high valuations can increase the risk of a market correction, especially if anticipated growth does not materialize.
  • However, valuations are just one factor to consider, and market dynamics can be influenced by various elements, including economic conditions, interest rates, and investor sentiment.
  • Its price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio stands at 30.44, indicating that investors are paying $30.44 for every dollar of earnings generated by the companies within the ETF.
  • A P/E ratio of 30.44 suggests that VOO is trading at a premium compared to historical norms.
  • This elevated valuation may reflect high investor expectations for future growth, particularly in sectors like technology, which currently constitute about 33% of VOO's holdings.
Starting from ground 0 and all of this is quite overwhelming. 2024-12-05T03:57:27+00:00 2 investing
  • Sounds like you don't have a lot of bills or expenses but how much do you spend recreationally each month on things like coffee, going out to eat, entertainment etc.
  • Hopefully it involves a raise and that makes saving more money easier without needing to drastically change your spending.
  • Beyond that, find ways to make yourself important at your job and stay relevant to keep career progression up.
  • If you can work out a way to save and invest $400 a month in 30 years you'll have almost a million, but it takes time.
  • I'm a believer anyone mentally fit can find a way to do this through increasing earnings and savings and cutting spending where appropriate.
