Where are the stocks I buy "stored"? 2024-08-02T17:43:05+00:00 94 investing
  • Lots of weird internet conspiracy theories go around this, basically saying "You really don't own stock" or something dumb.
  • There are tons of precedence for this and for all intents and purposes you do own the shares, regardless if they technically are registered under schwab and I could probably cite 100 court cases that holds the ownership up
  • The reason for this is well it would be hard to keep track of like 1 billion + investors , if me and 10 million other people at schwab owns MSFT stock the stock is listed under Schwab and Schwab internally keeps track of who owns the shares at the brokerage .
  • Also just things like paying dividends, instead of sending out dividends to 10 million separate investors and keeping track of their bank accounts or sending out 10 million checks, they simply send Schwab the dividend then Schwab distributes it to the people holding the stock at Schwab .
  • As people move or change bank accounts can you imagine a company like MSFT keeping track of like 50 million separate investors address and bank account info, every time they would send out a dividend like millions of accounts would probably get bounced back because people close the accounts or something, it would be a huge mess
Can AMD do Nvidia? 2024-05-24T13:43:51+00:00 80 wallstreetbets
  • The chipsets that Nvidia builds are driving almost all of the data science at this point, and most of the inference.
  • If I were buying two AI companies, it would be MSFT and NVDA.
  • AMD will eventually be able to compete, but Nvidia has a multi year head start and will continue to dominate not only due to their hardware platform, but their software stack and architecture is way ahead of their peers.
  • And by if I were buying, I added 10 more Nvidia shares @ $1009 after earnings for a total of 50 and hold 91 shares of MSFT.
  • Microsoft is the closest to competing in software stack right now.

If you could only own 2 tech stocks for next 5 years, who do you believe in most and why 2024-02-19T15:49:33+00:00 136 stocks

  • Investor with AMZN since 2017.

  • Not sure if he still has them I think he might have sold but he had like 160,000 shares of AMD with a cost basis in the 3.00 range.
  • The other was MSFT that he bought after the tech bubble burst.

  • Its complaining that there needs to be an investigation because Nvidia (which I don't believe is famous for networking gear), is trying to strong arm ppl into buying their AI chips so they'll get a discount on their networking products?
  • I think MSFT, GOOG, AMZN, anyone will have to go with AI competitors rather than wait several years for Nvidia chips.
  • I'm pretty sure from the last few quarterly earnings that Nvidia is having no issues whatsoever to sell their AI chips.
  • The desire is so huge even with China bans there's no slowdown in growth.
  • I'm not gonna bother googling it but their earnings report might've had a comment from their CEO talking about being sold out for years.

VST and CEG energy stocks 2024-10-30T02:38:05+00:00 2 wallstreetbets
  • I have followed/owned CEG, NRG, TLN and VST (mainly via ENGH it's nuclear acquisition) Since OP all these shares have performed extremely well, while TLN and CEG have been the only two players to announce deals with hyperscalers 1.
  • Dual-reactors are key to any colocation deal for now , because in single reactor plants (most of VST nukes) the power is shut off for planned maintenance outages, which makes the co-located data center immediately a "taker" of the utilities power supply (aka the grid) and that strips away most of the benefit to a behind the meter deal between the plant operator and data center tenant 2.
  • Lastly , I am not sure why NRG gets mentioned in this Nuke colocation theme, it is my understanding that NRG sold its last nuclear plant to CEG under pressure from Elliot management and proceeded to take the money and buyback shares , they are clearly riding the wave, long term NRGs model of owning less generation assets while growing the overall amount of power sold to customers seems it can run into problems if power pricing continues in its trajectory.

Stop Buying Intel Calls - Remember They Have Fucking Sucked Ass Since 2000 2024-05-10T23:59:37+00:00 225 wallstreetbets
  • 2000 was the peak for many tech stocks.
  • If anything this is probably the most bullish thing I've seen for INTC in a long time.
  • INTC is trying to pull off a turn around.
  • Had 200 INTC shares since the early 2010s and doubled down with another 200 shares in 2020 so my losses aren't so much bad so much as INTC having been a fucking show and being inferior to no stress VOO.
  • Is getting billions pumped into them by Biden, Dems/Reps, and the US government who are incentivized for them to win.
I'm bullish on $GOOG 2024-12-10T18:00:38+00:00 168 stocks
  • It should have a premium valuation but it actually trades at a discount to the broader market, let alone it's high flying peer group.
  • Despite the above, look for goog share price growth to continue lagging EPS growth as the valuation continues to plummet as the company posts historically good earnings and gets punished for it.
  • Their intangible assets are invaluable (brand name due to Gmail, maps, photos, search, tpu, etc).
  • GOOG is a fortress with a balance sheet stronger than that of most countries - leader in video steaming, mobile operating systems, email, browser, search, AI, quantum computing, autonomous driving, etc - no reason this stock should trade at a 20 P/E while AAPL trades at a 40.
  • Fundamentally GOOG is the strongest company on the planet and should be valued in the 3T club.

  • I pull the trigger when the stock drops to the low end of its range normally.
  • ABBV started out as a bad news purchase then they announced they were buying Allergan and the stock plummeted.
  • They are speculative, volatile and I use the dividends to buy 4, 9, 15 more shares of my blue chips with the money.
  • I have different levels of entry which doesn't depend on the stock price but the quality more than anything else.

What do you guys think of NVIDIA earnings? 2024-02-10T01:17:56+00:00 102 wallstreetbets
  • I think most people don't know how to read an ER or factor in guidance.
  • But because stock went up fast, people assume it must be a bubble
  • You mention they only did $27B revenue last year and must be overvalued, but ignore that they're expected to do $20B revenue and $10B+ profit just in Q4.
  • For the upcoming full year, analysts expect ~$95B revenue and $40B net profit.
  • They're literally sitting at a better forward PE than MSFT, NFLX or AMZN.

  • Companies like GOOGL, MSFT, AMZN, NVDA, perhaps AAPL, ADBE, and whoever else have had monopoly-like position for many years, but only recently have pushed earnings.
  • In the past year, YouTube and Google search have become so ad-ridden it's starting to have a backlash on social media.
  • We still haven't seen a real recession, at this moment mainly due to deficit spending, so it's hard to say what would happen to tech earnings.
  • For instance, GOOGL has been criticized in the past for not not being shareholder friendly and not focusing on profits, but they were always able to just turn that switch.
  • In a free market, economic profits tend towards zero, and the only way to hold them high is a moat.
